Summary: This small loose leaf folder (130x100 mm) begins with brief references to his whereabouts and appointments while on furlough in the Primitive Methodist Mexborough Circuit near Doncaster, England. More detailed entries cover his time with relatives in Norfolk before setting off for Africa on 17 April 1909. His journey through Southern Africa is described along with preparations at Choma, [Zambia]. He arrived at Kasenga [Zambia] on 26 May and the diary describes how the mission was set up. We can see his application and energy as he applied himself to the logistics and practical work of constructing the mission house, school and other buildings. He recorded his interactions with his workforce and local Africans and his frustration at the delay in beginning his Ila New Testament. Eventually, he found time to start on this (22 August) and the diary records his progress through Matthew's gospel with the help of his assistant Pauluse Kaiyobe and his start on the Epistle of James. At the same time he was busy with preaching, teaching, reading and writing articles and reviews.
