Summary: Correspondence relating to the China missions and districts of the Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society and Methodist Missionary Society, 1851-1950. Correspondence primarily consists of letters from missionaries to the secretaries of the Society regarding their work and from the district chairman on issues concerning missionary work within their district. Some later files also include copies of outgoing letters sent to missionaries and district chairman by the secretaries. General correspondence dates from 1936. Correspondence for specific areas is available as follows: Canton [i.e., Guangzhou] (1851-1905), Hunan (1907-), Hupeh [i.e., Hubei] (1905-), Ningpo [i.e., Ningbo] (1933-), North China (1933-), South China (1905-), Southwest China (1932-), Wenchow [i.e., Wenzhou] (1933-) and Wuchang [i.e., Wuchang district, Wuhan] (1877-1905).
