Correspondence relating to the South Africa missions and districts of the Wesleyan Methodist Church, Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society and Methodist Missionary Society. Correspondence primarily consists of letters from missionaries to the secretaries of the Society regarding their work. General correspondence dates from 1807 to 1824 with the addition of correspondence relating to the autonomous South African Conference from 1883-1942. Correspondence for specific areas is available as follows: Albany (1825-1857), Bechuana (1838-1876), Bloemfontein (1876-1885), the Cape including Mauritius (1825-1885), Clerkebury (1881-1885), Grahamstown (1864-1885), Kaffraria (1858-1864), Mashonaland (1891-1898), Natal (1858-1885), Queenstown (1868-1885), and Transvaal and Swaziland (1881-). Please note that there are significant gaps in some of these correspondence sequences. |
