Nayar house in upland Kerala

This is a Nayar family home, with tiled roof, verandah and several floors. The Nayars were traditionally matrilineal, and the traditional Nayar household consisted of all the matrilineally related kin, male and female, descended from a common female ancestor, living in one large house and compound.
