Summary: |
This circle of stones attracted the attention of Christoph von Furer-Haimendorf, who searched for and studied megalithic culture throughout his long career. In the distance, in the centre, we can also see some Chenchu houses, with circular walls and conical thatch roofs, similar to Chenchu houses in the forest. While Furer-Haimendorf spent most of his time among the roughly 400 Chenchus living as hunter-gatherers on the Amrabad Plateau, most Chenchus (about 3,000) lived in villages in the plains. Chenchus lived near but were not integrated into the social life of these villages (dominated by Telugu peasant castes, whose houses are visible on the left). |
