Summary: This Chenchu man is from a settlement somewhere in the plains. He wears a somewhat more elaborate cloth loin cloth, with a leather belt, than did Chenchu men who lived in the forest. While Christoph von Furer-Haimendorf spent most of his time among the roughly 400 Chenchus living as hunter-gatherers on the Amrabad Plateau, most Chenchus (about 3,000) lived in villages in the plains. Chenchus lived near but were not integrated into the social life of these villages (dominated by local peasant castes).
