Summary: These Chenchu men were photographed in a Chenchu settlement in the plains. While Christoph von Furer-Haimendorf spent most of his time among the roughly 400 Chenchus living as hunter-gatherers on the Amrabad Plateau, most Chenchus (about 3,000) lived in villages in the plains. Chenchus lived near but were not integrated into the social life of these villages (dominated by local peasant castes).
