Summary: This is the Chenchu settlement of Pulajelma, which contained 13 houses and was considered a permanent settlement. The wattle circular wall of the house is crowned by this conical thatched roof. The framework is made from bamboo. At the time of this photograph, Furer-Haimendorf found 15 different such 'permanent' settlements, ranging in size from 3 to 13 houses. The man in the centre appears to be milking a cow. Some Chenchus owned cattle and buffaloes, which they raised for milk and for sale. They did not eat their meat.
