Summary: These mithuns (bos frontalis) are drinking somewhere near the southern end of the Apatani valley. Most Apatanis owned several of these large, ox-like and semi-domesticated animals, and some owned dozens, even hundreds. mithuns were used as currency in the payment of debts, land purchases, marriage negotiations and feud settlements. They were (and still are) also sacrificed at major feasts.
