Summary: Man in the centre is an Apatani shaman conducting a ritual : He is not the senior shaman of this ritual, however, because he does not wear a special headdress, large hoop earrings or small piece of bamboo in his hair knot : He wears instead a man's ceremonial jacket, shawl and bracelet, plus the typical cane belt and hair knot, with a string of metal beads on the hair line : He is chanting, having just twisted the head off a chicken the head is in his right hand, the body in his left, : although not visible in this photograph, the main sacrificial animal is a mithun : the context is unclear, but the ritual is probably a minor version of the Murung (Feast of Merit), known as subu taniin, which sometimes occurs in March, when this photograph was taken.
