Summary: These two tall structures consist of bamboo poles erected for ritual purposes in an Apatani village : the single pole, in the centre, with a chicken carcass on top, stands over the grave of a man who was recently executed for theft : Encircling its base are a number of bamboo hoops to protect the site from harmful influences : Christoph von Fürer-Haimendorf was told that this pole was erected in a conspicuous place in order to keep alive the anger of the dead man's clansmen : the other structure, on the right, with several poles, has a small wooden stake at its base at which chickens would have been sacrificed.
