Summary: This Nyishi woman is winnowing in or near Talo village : the grain may be millet or maize, which was grown in cleared fields around Nyishi settlements : It may also be rice gained by trading with Apatanis : talo is only about 10 kilometres and a four-hour walk from the Apatani valley, high in the surrounding mountains, where Apatanis frequently came to trade : this Nyishi woman wears the typical wooden disc in her ear lobe, hair bun and coarse cotton tunic : Christoph von Fürer-Haimendorf saw her when he came to Talo to negotiate a settlement to a long-standing conflict between a clan of Nyishis not in Talo, and Apatanis.
