Summary: This mithun, on the left, is tethered to a few bamboo poles in front of a Nyishi house in Talo village in preparation for sacrifice. The crowd contains mostly Nyishis but also a few Apatanis (the squatting man on the right, for example). Talo is only a few kilometres and a four-hour walk from the Apatani valley, high in the surrounding mountains, where Apatanis frequently came to trade. On this occasion, Christoph von Fürer-Haimendorf saw this event when he came to Talo to negotiate a settlement to a long-standing conflict between a clan of Nyishis (not in Talo) and Apatanis.
