Summary: |
In this photograph, we see the approach across the paddy fields to Christoph von Fürer-Haimendorf's house, built on flat, dry ground, which he later learned was a burial ground : Fürer-Haimendorf and his wife, Betty, lived in this traditional house during their first stay in the Apatani valley, for nine weeks until late May 1944 : We can see two other structures built nearby, which housed his staff and stored supplies : the people carrying loads across the paddy fields may be bringing supplies to this campsite. |
