Summary: As this photograph shows, Apatanis live in compact villages and narrow houses approx : 12 x 4 metres and owned by nuclear families, in order to use every square metre of land for wet-rice agriculture : along the right hand side of the street are tall poles erected during the annual Myoko festival : another set of poles, for electricity, are visible on the left hand side : the man striding toward the camera wears the traditional hair style knot with skewers, and bands of cane below the knee : His coat, however, resembles those given to 'village headman' by the colonial government in the 1940s and later by the Indian government.
