Summary: This map was drawn by Livingstone during his Trans Africa Expedition’, and portrays the portion of the journey leading to the discovery of Lake Ngami. -- The map was a gift to Rev. William Thompson, the London Missionary Society agent in Cape Town. His son, the Rev. Ralph Wardlaw Thompson (LMS Foreign Secretary, 1880-1914), passed it on at his death in 1916 to the LMS. In November 1955 the manuscript map was presented by the LMS to Sir Roy Welensky as a permanent loan to the Central African Federation. After the breakup of the Federation, the map was returned to London in 1964.
