Summary: Robert Knox sailed aboard the English East India Company ship Ann captained by his father, Robert Knox Sr. Returning from Fort St George (Madras), a storm stranded them in November 1659 near Kottiar Bay in Sri Lanka, where they were detained by King Rajasinghe II of Kandy. Knox Jr’s stay in the kingdom lasted 19 years, and he recorded his time there in this book which also gives details of the country and its inhabitants. He and a companion escaped in 1679 through Dutch territory, reaching London in September 1680. -- The book has an introduction by Robert Hooke, a founder member of the Royal Society in London.
