Likok and his daughter of the Chongli group. Likok's young daughter wears a body cloth wrapped round her, shaved head and a necklace. Likok wears small wads of cotton wool in his ears. He has bought the right to wear a necklet of boar's tusks and wristlets of cowrie shells fringed with red hair; formerly the right could only be gained by prowess in war. The string of long shell beads made of the inner part of the conch shell show that he or a member of his family has done the mithun sacrifice. He also wears a cowrie embroidered apron, a baldric of woven cotton and dyed goat's hair and a pair of ivory armlets, all of which demonstrate his status. |
