Summary: This Phom village had never before been visited by Europeans. The men wear brass chest ornaments showing that they themselves have taken heads. The man on the left carries his dao , which is decorated with dyed goat's hair, in a holder in the small of his back. He wears a cane hat decorated with a hornbill feather and boar's tusks. His belt is decorated with sewn bands of cowrie shells or 'Job's tears' seeds, as are his wristlets. The two men in the centre wear cane hats decorated with bear's fur and boar's tusks.
