Butterfield & Swire (Hong Kong) Ltd was a major shareholder and supplied the management: the company itself was essentially a holding company and was formed to acquire the shares of the Taikoo Sugar Refining Company Ltd, and Hong Kong Bottlers Ltd. At the same time capital was raised by share issue for further development. The Company subsequently acquired Duro Industries Ltd as a wholly owned subsidiary and obtained a shareholding in Metropole Hotels Ltd of Hong Kong |
