Bound volume containing copies of letters to Butterfield & Swire covering management of House and China Navigation Company business and including the building of new steamers, purchase of property and extension of Taikoo Sugar Refinery (1889); also concerning among other general trade subjects relations with Lorimer, Rome & Co and Australian trade, relations with Mansfield & Company in Singapore, with Holt's regarding the Ocean Steam Ship Company [OSSCo] and Conference affairs, particularly poor relations with Jardine Matheson & Co and China Merchants Company. During 1889-90 letters from London were also being handled by J H Scott on leave from the East and he dealt with most internal Butterfield & Swire affairs.
