description File containing correspondence, notes and photographs relating to eleven Chinese jade pieces of artworks owned by [name redacted] which were held in the custody of John Sparks Ltd between 1983-1991. Comprises: copies of five letters sent by Michael Gillingham (Director of John Sparks Ltd) to the private individual regarding arrangements for the storage of the jade and later enquiring if the individual would consider selling the pieces to an international collector (5 December 1983-8 May 1991); two letters from a law firm acting on behalf of the private individual sent to Gillingham enquiring about the location and valuation of the jade pieces (12 June 1990-2 July 1990) and a letter from Gillingham to the law firm confimring John Sparks Ltd hold the pieces and enclosing a valuation (26 June 1990). The file also includes a handwritten valuation of the eleven pieces on John Sparks Ltd letterhead paper, with notes on the reverse side by Gillingham regarding a visit to the individual to discuss the potential sale (March 1990); twelve colour photographic prints of the eleven jades on five card boards, annotated with handwritten descriptions; seven colour transparencies of the jade pieces (8" x 10"); and one colour transparency of a Chinese screen (8" x 10").
