description The JCU was founded in 1916 by Mr K Toril, for young Japanese men in transit. its meetings were held successively in Wimbledon, the YMCA, Student House Russell Square, a home in bayswater, Miss Preston' s home, and in Student House at 103 Gower Street. Miss Preston led the work from about 1921-1952. The JCU estimated that they touched 2000 Japanese. In Tokyo in the 1950's there was a meeting of 'Former Members of the JCU in London'. The jCU was endowd by Mr Matsumoto, a Manchester businessman, with £1000 Japanese shares. In 1957 the JCU affiliated to the Japan Evangelistic Band, and Dr T Matsumoto was invited to the Council of the Japan Evangelistic Band.
