In 1875, Bombay Indian Female Normal School was founded by Miss Harriet Butt with nine high-caste girls. It moved to larger quarters at Girgaum and became a high school. In 1896, Miss Alice Emily Kimmins became headmistress. The plague of 1897 forced its temporary closure, and it re-opened on a new site near the railway in 1908. In 1912, it was renamed Queen Mary High School after a visit of the Queen Empress in 1912. In 1969, the school was handed over to the Christian Medical and Educational Fellowship, a BMMF Indian Christian Trust. |
