scb_admin_history In 1901, Miss E. S. Poynter bought some land for a mission station and bungalow, and started a school. A report of 1902 tells of a warm welcome after a cautious start, but “the early marriages of the children interfere much with Bengali Girls’ Schools.” The work was closed in 1918 for lack of funds and the buildings were rented out to an American mission who began work with the men and women.
