Mr & Mrs Elisha Loomis were among the first missionaries sent by the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (ABCFM) to begin missionary work in the Sandwich Islands [Hawaiian Islands]. They were appointed as Printers. Mr Loomis superintended the printing press between 1824 and 1826, returning to the United States in 1827. In 1828, at Rochester, New York, he printed and issued the First, Second and Fourth Gospels in Hawaiian. For two years he was then missionary to the Indians at Mackinaw. He died in 1837.
