scb_admin_history Desmond Kenilworth Clinton was born on 28 July 1908 in the Transvaal. He completed his theological training in England at New College, London, and Mansfield College, Oxford. He married Iris Corbin on 22 June 1935 at Streatham Congregational Church. He was ordained shortly afterwards, on 30 June 1935 at Purley. Mr and Mrs Clinton sailed for South Africa in the same year, where Desmond became minister of the Congregational Church at Claremont, Cape Town. In 1937 he became Moderator of the Congregational Churches in the Western District (including Cape Town, Paarl and Worcester). In 1940 he became minister of the Ebenezer Church, Johannesburg. He served for a period as Editor of 'The Congregationalist', and was the CUSA (Congregational Union of South Africa) representative on the Joint Committee for Church Union. He was active in the work of the CUSA, and in October 1944 was installed as Chairman of the Union at the Cape Town Assembly. He died on 4 January 1945.
