Also includes Memorial by Edward Stallybrass for his first wife, Sarah, 1833, and a letter to Fanny Ellah from Charlotte Ellah Stallybrass (second wide to Edward Stallybrass), with a short note by Edward Stallybrass, 18 Aug 1839 (possibly the last letter written by Charlotte to her family in Elsinore, Denmark, as she died in childbirth on 23 September 1839).

Admin history: Edward Stallybrass was born at Royston, England in 1793 or 1794. He studied at Homerton College in East London and was ordained at Stepney in 1816. In the same year he became engaged to Sarah Robinson (1789-1833), the daughter of a tallow-chandler of Stepney and was appointed to the newly-established London Missionary Society’s mission in Siberia. He married in 1817 and, together with his wife, travelled via Cronstadt and St Petersburg to Moscow. Acquisition: The papers were presented to the School of Oriental and African Studies by Professor Michael Stallybrass, descendant of Edward Stallybrass, via Professor Charles R Bawden in 2001, and form part of the special series of personal papers of individual missionaries and officers among the records of the London Missionary Society. Additional papers were donated by Professor Michael Stallybrass in July 2017.
