Born 14 Dec 1888 at Tananarive, Madagascar, so of Rev J H Haile, also a missionary with the London Missionary Society; studied at Oxford and at Mansfield College, Oxfrod; appointed Principal of the (Arthington) Native Institution, Tiger Kloof, South Africa; ordained 17 Sep 1914; sailed Sep 26 1914; married Dorothy Palmer 21 Jan 1915; 1918 removed to Molepole to study native life and culture; took temporary oversight of the Kanye Mission; Mrs Haile died at the Vryburg Hospital, 5 Jun 1918; 1919 he returned to Tiger Kloof; married Ethel Palmer 12 Jun 1922. |
