Admin history: Born 19 Aug 1866 at Saltcoats, Ayrshire; studied at Cheshunt College; appointed to the Central African Mission; ordained 6 May 1897; married Elizabeth Rosa Burton, 4 May 1897; sailed 8 Jun 1897, and settled at Kawimbe, where he died, 21 Aug 1901. Mrs May returned to England in 1902. She collected and revised her husband's language material, chriefly Scripture translation, and issued this in the form of a small book called 'Mukyele Utiswe'.
