Summary: includes letters by Joseph Kam from Amboina [Ambon] - visited Ceram [Seram]; favourable atmosphere created by visit of governor general Baron van der Kapellen [Godert Alexander Gerard Philip, Baron van der Capellen]; 5,000 school pupils, 85 church members received on profession of faith; Dutch missionary Starink at Elpaputih overcame idolatry following arson attack on his house at service time. - journal (translated by E F Grenier and sent by him with covering letter 17 Sep 1827 ) of major 5-month tour of South Western and South Eastern Moluccan islands; on many islands latent Christianity dating back generations was revived by Kam's preaching and instruction, 900 baptisms and solemnisation of many marriages; in 1825 Kam's total baptized neared 2560 of whom over 750 were adults.
