description |
two letters from:
Benjamin Keasberry, Mount Zion, Singapore - one convert is a woman from the Cocos Islands: quotes her comments; Chinese church at Bukit Timah continues, removal of former catechist, appointment of successor; expects William Young to come from Australia and join in the mission; boarding schools contain 39 boys, 11 girls; two sons are returned from Blackheath school (one remains there) and being initiated into mission work; transfer of mission chapel on 1 July whereafter Scotch church ceased paying rent. Strongly urges the claims of the mission upon the Directors.
Personal account of two converts, one of whom had a 'happy death' soon after; new candidates, good congregations, progress of the schools; William Young not able to leave Australia after all [he eventually came in about 1875]
