Summary: Encloses copy of Sechele's letter to forward to the Directors; refers to letter written to the Lieutenant-Governor [re the Sack of Kolobeng]; small hopes of compensation for losses sustained; account of the "fall" of Sechele; affair has come to light concerning family members of the teachers Mebaloe and Paul "viz excessive impurity", of which they have kept him in ignorance; has asked Paul to leave, but he has refused; witholding pay, but still considering Mebaloe's case and may still draw a year's salary for him; accusations by Ashton over this affair, including that Livingstone is "holding up Sechele to the Directors as a convert, all the while knowing he is an apostate" and that he lacks "moral courage"; Livingstone deciding whether to "brave a row, or the imputation", and is inclined towards the latter course; intends to write another piece for the British Quarterly on the Caffre War; has sketched out a Sichuana [seTswana] grammar; experiencing a pain in his chest; has remained in Kuruman more than a month - waiting until the Boers have gone as he fears they intend to kill him; intends to travel light and keep to the West.
