Convinced that the [Cape] Colony is no longer a missionary field and that the intentions of donors are not carried out when funds are applied to colonial missions; more success would be gained from applying a smaller amount to the "regions beyond"; kindness of William Oswell towards his family; family being sent home and will meet Oswell; feeling downcast; problems with uvula [elongated and obstructs his voice] and tonsils, which prevent him from speaking in public; fears about ability to speak with people in the Interior; people anxiously looking for the new governor; comments on the wars and says that his sympathies are "with the Caffres".
