description Annual report by George Morris, Papeete mission, Tahiti, dated 3 Dec 1866 and addressed to Rev. Tidman. The report was received by LMS headquarters on 20 Mar 1867. Refers to the death of European residents at the mission A Salmon and Rev. A Simpson. Refers to increase in cottage parayer meetings, and that the extension of [religious] liberties by the Government amongst the native peoples has continued since the previous year. He has made visits to 13 districts and has preached in many of them. He regrets that there have been abuses among the native churches which have required more missionary visits. Gives information on Day and Sunday schools, including numbers attending, and comments on educational provision within the mission. Comments extensively on the work of the press, which has been hindered with problems of the supply of paper. Refers to distribution of the Bible and religious texts. Reports on the native agency in Tahiti and amongst the local islands.
