Annual report by Rev. Joseph King, Savaii mission, Samoa, dated 16 Aug 1866, and addressed to Rev. Tidman. The report was received by LMS headquarters on 21 Jan 1867 and subsequently answered. He refers to the encouraging statistics of the Church, and an increase in the native agency, partly as a result of gaining two teachers from the Loyalty Islands who were unable to carry out their duties there due to 'French persecution'. He comments on the erection of three stone chapels in the district. Refers to progress of Day Schools and Sunday Schools, and the commencement of a school for preparing young men for the Malua Theological Institution. Female classes are supervised by Mrs King [Miriam King nee Miriam Walkington]. Provides details of May and June missionary meetings - contributions have dropped as a result of the failure of the crop of coconut oil. Refers to the Indigenous teacher Tataio who described the 'cannibal natives' on Ware. Gives statistics on no. of church members, children in schools, nos. admitted to church etc.
