description Journal of George Stallworthy and George Gill, May - August 1858, describing their voyage to Aiutaki - Hervey Islands. Deferring their visit to the other islands in the Herveys due to the epidemic raging there, they proceeded to Samoa - Tutuila, Manua, Upolu and Savaii, then to the New Hebrides [Vanuatu] - Aneiteum [Anatom] where the Presbyterian missionaries were stationed. They also visited Futuna, Tanna, Niua, Erromanga [Erromango], Fate [Efate] and then the Lifu, Mare, Toka and Uea [Ouvea] in the Loyalty Islands [New Caledonia] and finally Niue. At each place they met with the native teachers, and observed the progress of the missions. Journal also contains Mr Geddie and Mr Inglis's census of Aneiteum [Anatom] as well as a list of the islands, stations, missionaries and native teachers in Western Polynesia.
