Journal of Charles Hardie, September - November 1854, describing a voyage to the New Hebrides [Vanuatu] and Loyalty Islands [New Caledonia] to visit the native teachers and observe the progress of the missions there, accompanied by James Sunderland, and two new missionaries - Stephen Creagh and John Jones with their families. They visited Aneiteum [Anatom], Tana [Tanna], Erromanga [Erromango], Fate [Efate] where they discovered two native teachers had been murdered, and then Mare where the new missionaries stayed, proceeding then to Toka, Lifu and Niue before returning to Samoa. |
