description |
Island politically more settled, but swept by a teriffic storm. Celebration of Ordinance suspended during the war. Unsatisfactory state of school due to war. Distressing conditions of the people in general. Conditions in Mr Harbutt’s district which had been left partly in his care. Wesleyans still numerous, though a few coming over to them. Havoc wrought by gale. Sugar cane leaves used for roatfln houses there. Only one of more than thirty chapels, including the Wesleyan, in the district left. No life lost in the storm. Arguments for and against natives working on missionaries' houses. |
