Admin history: George Pritchard (1796-1883) served as a missionary with the London Missionary Society in Tahiti, South Seas, 1824-1837. He subsequently served as British Consul in Tahiti from 1837, and in Samoa from 1845. George Baxter (1804-1867) was an engraver and printer who invented a process of colour printing that made reproductions of paintings available on a mass scale. Custodial history: Copy 171(1) brought from Ware Furlough House in 1962; copy 171(2) donated to the LMS in 1948. Both prints held as part of the LMS Museum (inventory item 171) before being transferred to SOAS Library in January 2008.
