description Series comprising files of correspondence with the Board of Trustees for the Administration of the Indemnity Funds Remitted by the British Government, for the period April 1931 - February 1950. The correspondence is largely from the Board of Trustees to the Chinese Government Purchasing Commission (in Chinese with English translations attached), but also includes copies of correspondence sent by the Commission. Particularly in the early years, correspondence concerns the constitution of the Commission, its guiding principles and procedural issues as determined by the Board. Material also concerns personnel and financial matters including the remittance and apportionment of the Indemnity Funds, and loans and interest payments on the Funds. These files have been arranged in chronological order, according to the original numbered sequence. Two additional files cover the procedures adopted on the appointment of a new member of the Commission (1947 - 1948), and later correspondence between the Commission, the Chinese Government and the British Foreign Office concerning the sequence of events leading up to the "winding-up" of the Commission in September 1951. These files have been placed at the end of the series.
