scb_admin_history The Council of Outlook was set up in 1924 by Lilias Trotter, with members of the Band and representatives of Lilias Trotter's senior leadership team (Executive) then the General Committee. It had no executive powers, but reported to the General Committee. Its purpose was to give every member of the Band, including General Committee members and probationers, an opportunity to 'ventilate their ideas' and make suggestions concerning the work of the mission. It met roughly once a year in the autumn to discuss strategic questions, under the chairmanship first of Mabel Grautoff, who was also a member of the General Committee. Mary Watling was succeeded as secretary in 1929 by May Ridley, the secretary being nominated by members of the Outlook Council other than General Committee members. Both Miss Grautoff and Miss Ridley resigned in1931. Miss Currie and Miss Smeeton were elected, but served only briefly, being succeeded by Miss Butler (chair) and Miss Johnston (secretary) in 1932. Subsequent chairmen were Miss Violet Wood, and, at the last, Mr Ronald Waine for one meeting only in 1954, after which the Committee ceased.
