Admin history: John Hunter came from London. In January 1790 he and his brother embarked on the "Nassau" bound for Smyrna, the beginning of a two-year stay in Turkey. After Smyrna John Hunter and his party travelled to Constantinople [Istanbul] which they left in May 1792. They travelled overland to Paris by way of Moldavia, Wallachia, Vienna, Venice, Rome, Geneva, and Paris, returning to London in December 1792.
Custodial history: This volume originally formed part of the library of Sir Thomas Phillipps. The Phillipps catalogue number is Ms 22959.
