William Govan Robertson was born on 27 August 1869, at Whithorn, Scotland. He was connected with the Livingstonia Mission, Nyassaland, as a lay missionary, from February 1891, and later appointed to the London Missionary Society Central Africa Mission in 1897. He married Christian Gregorson Sim on 25 June 1897. He was ordained in Free St. George's Church, Glasgow. Mr and Mrs Robertson left England on 7 July 1897, and settled at Kawimbe. Mrs Robertson died there on 24 Aug 1898. He married Edith Moorhouse on 6 Jan 1904. In 1914, Mr Robertson was for 6 months 'locum tenens' at Mpolokoso. In 1916, he settled temporarily at Kambole, and afterwards at Mpolokoso. In 1923 he established a mission station at Luambazi (later called Senga). He died on 16 May 1928.
Robert Owen Abel was born on 10 December 1904. He left for Africa in January 1929 and served for 5 years as an Industrial Assistant at Mbereshi, Northern Rhodesia [Zambia], and was in charge of the Technical School there. He was appointed to Kawimbe in 1937 and served as a district missionary at Kawimbe and then at Senga from 1951. During his last term of service he was engaged on the erection of new hospital buildings at Mbereshi. He resigned from service on 4 January 1959. He married at Senga in December 1932 to Edith Mary Hope Robertson, who also worked alongside her husband in the mission. |
