Thomas Postans, only son of Thomas Postans and his wife, Agathe. Born 1808. Entered the Service of the Hon. East India Company as a Cadet, 1827; Second Lieutenant, 2 Sep 1828; Captain, 2 Sep 1843; in Command of 15th Native Infantry Regiment, Bombay Army; Assistant Political Agent in the Upper Sindh and Biluchistan; Line Adjutant at Bhooj; Resident at the Court of H. H. the Bhaiya Bhye of Nassik; Persian Interpreter to the Sindh Force; appointed Boundary Commissioner at Deesa, 1846. Died 11 Dec 1846; buried at Deesa Cemetary, Gujerat, India.
Thomas Postans married Marianne Ridgway, 9 Feb 1833. After his death, Marianne married again, William Henry Young, surgeon of H.M. 28th Regiment of Foot. Thomas was the elder brother of Mary Postans, a well-known English contralto/mezzo-soprano between 1834 and 1849. |
