William Bennett was born in Seaton, Cornwall, on 20 February 1864. A Bible Christian, he became a lay preacher in 1882 and in 1886 undertook ministerial training at Shebbear College. After a year spent in Kilkhampton, Cornwall, he was sent as a missionary to Brisbane, Australia, departing aboard the 'Ormuz' on 29 September 1888. He remained in Brisbane for the next 7 years, and from 1891 specifically in the Enoggera circuit (which included Kelvin Grove). In 1895 he returned to England serving initially in Ilfracombe, Devon, and then spending the remainder of his career in circuits within Cornwall and Devon. He became a supernumerary in 1927 residing in the Tiverton and Bampton circuit until his death on 6 May 1931. |
