Summary: Manuscript is a copy of the divan of the famous poet and mystic Jami (1414-92), who ranks alongside Sa'di and Hafiz as one of the greatest Persian poets. It is dated 941AH (1534-1535 CE) and was most probably produced in Herat, where Jami spent much of his life. Its opening pages are decorated in ultramarine blue and gold, with elegant scrollwork and floral elements in red, orange, green and black. The arrangement of this decoration, with its particular palette, strongly resembles that of manuscripts produced in Herat, and its quality, together with that of the paper and the calligraphic nasta'liq script, suggests that it may have been produced for a high-ranking patron.
