Summary: Architect's model of the SOAS Library, 1973 MEDIUM wood, inside a plexi-glass case. ACQUISITION Commissioned by SOAS REFERENCE LDSAC 2022.7.17 The SOAS library is a National Research Library that houses more than 1.5 million volumes and electronic resources for the study of Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and attracts scholars from all over the world. The present SOAS Library is located in the Philips Building on the Russell Square campus and was built in 1973. It was designed by an eminent British architect, Sir Denys Lasdun CH, CBE (1914–2001), who also designed some of Britain's most famous brutalist buildings such as the National Theatre and the Institute of Education. This model was made at the time when the original library building was built in 1973. This is part of the SOAS Artwork & Object Collections. See more https://www.soas.ac.uk/gallery/collections/
