Summary: ‘Festival at Mandalay palace’, signed ‘Nsinger’, late 20th century, probably Burma. MEDIUM watercolour DIMENSIONS 53 x 85.5 cm REFERENCE LDSAC 2022.6.7 Painting of a festival taking place at the royal Mandalay palace, the last royal palace of the last Burmese monarchy. Acrobats and musicians can be seen entertaining the crowds, with the public sitting on the floor outside and royalty watching from inside a building. The style shows a mix of older Burmese painting traditions, with more modern influences, as can also be seen in paintings by artists such as Paw Oo Thet - also in the SOAS collections.
