Paw Oo Thet (1936 –1993) was a Burmese painter, prominent in the Mandalay art scene who became one of the initiators of a modernist art movement in Burma in the early 1960s. He became known for his blend of Burmese traditions with modern Western art techniques. He drew from an incredible variety of influences, including Expressionism and Cubism, as well as Burmese traditions. He created many different types of paintings, including portraits, landscapes and works inspired by traditional Burmese paintings. The painting here shows his successful blend of Cubist style with Burmese art.
